Swedish-Inspired Meatballs

The formula

Beef or pork meatballs + creamy Dijon sauce + warm spices

What you’ll need

  • Ground beef or pork
  • Onion, diced
  • Garlic, minced
  • Egg (1-2)
  • Parmesan or asiago cheese, grated
  • Beef broth
  • Dijon mustard
  • Sour cream
  • Spices & seasonings: Italian seasoning, nutmeg, salt, and pepper

How to make it

  1. Combine the ground beef or pork with the garlic, egg, cheese, Italian seasoning, nutmeg, salt, and pepper.
  2. Shape the mixture into meatballs and place on a baking sheet.
  3. Bake the meatballs until cooked through. About 20-25 mins @ 400°F.
  4. In a large skillet, sauté the onion until softened.
  5. Add the beef broth and Dijon mustard.
  6. Stir in the sour cream until the sauce is as creamy as you want it.
  7. Add the meatballs to the pan and simmer until everything comes together. Sprinkle more cheese on top.

Make it your own

  • Use beef, pork, or a combination of the two.
  • I use 2 tbsp of the mustard. I recommend starting there and adjusting to taste.
  • Add mushrooms or peas to the sauce, or serve the meatballs with your favorite vegetable.
