Beef Cabbage Stew

The formula

Ground beef + cabbage + tomatoes

What you’ll need

  • Ground beef
  • Onion, diced
  • Garlic, minced
  • Cabbage, chopped
  • Diced tomatoes or tomato paste
  • Water or broth, as needed
  • Spices & seasonings: Italian seasonings, paprika, salt, and pepper

How to make it

  1. Sauté the onion and garlic in a large pot. Cook until softened.
  2. Add the ground beef, salt, pepper, Italian spices and paprika. Cook until beef is browned.
  3. Add the cabbage and either diced tomatoes or tomato paste.
  4. Add water or broth as needed, depending on how brothy you want the stew.
  5. Simmer until the cabbage is tender and the flavors have come together.
  6. Taste and adjust the seasonings before serving.

Make it your own

  • Add more liquid as the stew cooks if it becomes too thick.
  • Let it simmer longer if you want the cabbage very soft.
  • Add other vegetables, fresh herbs, red pepper flakes, or grated Parmesan if you have them on hand.
